My Blog, My Rules

EVER FELT LIKE YOU’VE OUTGROWN YOUR LIFE?

Have you ever wondered, if the box you are living in is too small? Too narrowly defined? Or as William Ayot describes it, that you are living “crowded years of coffee-rush”? Towards the end of last year, that was exactly how I felt.

IT'S TIME FOR A RE-BOOT OF MY SPARE TIME

So I decided to spice up my live and see what’s possible in my "5-9 time" (Alastair Humphreys). While still working 4 days a week, I’m sending myself on mini-challenges. And you, the readers of this blog, will be able to email me suggestions, of what you would like me to do.

MEASURE OF SUCCESS

This blog is NOT about getting it right. Or succeeding. Or being brilliant at everything I try.

It is about getting out there, looking the scary, furry thing in the eye and saying: "I am most likely going to be crap at this, but I'm trying it anyway!"

So my definition of 'success is going from one disaster to another with no loss of confidence'!

RULES OF THE BLOG

Basically, there are no rules in this blog! However to ensure that I won’t start slacking off, each adventure will be rated in these three categories:

  • The ‘sweaty-palm’ barometer (how nerve-racking was it)
  • The ‘positive impact on somebody else’ index (so this is not becoming just an act of self-indulgence)
  • Would I do it again?

The challenges I'm taking on are challenging to me (in some way or form). They might be easy for you. So this blog and it's ratings are going to be 100% subjective.

SO FROM NOW ON I’LL BE DEFYING GRAVITY

Elphaba puts it nicely at the end of Act I in WICKED:

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by
The rules of someone else's game!

Too late for second guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap

It’s time to try defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye, I’m defying gravity
And you can’t bring me down!
